About
Us
The
Fifth Street church of Christ is a non-denominational, non-institutional
congregation of believers in Christ. We pattern ourselves on scripture,
striving to be the church that God established - the same church
you can find in the New Testament. For more about the church of
Christ, please see our lessons titled 'The
church of Christ'. and 'What
Is the church of Christ?"
The only spiritual authority we recognize is Christ (Ephesians 1:22-23;
4:14-16; 5:23). To that aim, we believe there are necessary components
to one's addition into His church, those being; hearing the gospel,
believing, repenting of sin, confessing that Jesus is the Son of
God, being baptized in water for the forgiveness of sins and going
on to live a life pleasing to God.
The only spiritual organization we recognize is that of individual,
autonomous congregations in subjection to the Elders appointed at
that location. (Acts 14:23, Titus 1:5-9. 1 Peter 5:1-5) We currently
have two qualified Elders and four men serving as deacons. We have
one full-time Evangelist, or Preacher, and offer a preacher training
program for young men desiring to become evangelists.
We currently support the work of several sound evangelists, in the
US
and abroad, through financial contributions.
Our congregation is diverse and well rounded, with members from
all walks of life. Our members participate in a wide range of classes
and groups including; small group home bible studies, gospel meetings
twice a year, a yearly women's lectureship, a monthly men's class
as well as a young people's class and other informal, social opportunities
for fellowship. We strive to be welcoming and friendly to all.
We have regular times of worship and bible classes for all ages,
we observe the Lord's supper, or communion, on the first day of
the week (Acts 20:7, ), we contribute to the work of the church
(1 Corinthians 16:2), and we participate in congregational singing
without instrumentation. We also offer in-home or correspondence
bible classes, free of charge or obligation, upon request.
